Nearly a dozen more COVID-19 cases confirmed in London

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the London area now sits at 334 after 11 new cases were reported on Tuesday.

Updated figures released by the Middlesex London Health Unit show 53 of those cases are in local long-term care homes, 34 are in retirement homes, while 149 have been resolved. Twenty-seven people infected with COVID-19 are in the care of the London Health Sciences Centre, 12 of whom are listed in intensive care.

There were no new COVID-19 related deaths reported in London on Tuesday. The death toll for the region remains at 22.

Southwestern Public Health, the health unit for Oxford and Elgin counties, has reported three new cases. That brings that area's total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak began to 47. There have been a total of three deaths between the two counties.

Province-wide, the case count reached 11,735 on Tuesday with public health officials confirming 551 new cases.

A total of 859 Ontarians infected with the virus are in hospital, 194 are in intensive care on ventilators to help them breathe. There have been 622 COVID-19 related deaths and 5,806 recoveries.

The number of outbreaks reported in long-term care homes across the province has climbed again. There are now 121 homes reporting outbreaks.

A total of 1,368 health-care workers have contracted the virus.
