This year was supposed to be special for the Mount Forest Fireworks Festival.
The annual July event was to mark its 20th anniversary. For the past decade, it has been named One of Ontario’s Top 100 Festivals.
COVID-19 has forced the cancellation of the event in 2020, so the 20th anniversary will have to wait to be celebrated in 2021.
In making the announcement on Tuesday, Mount Forest Fireworks Festival Chair Sharon Wenger said the decision came with “heavy hearts” but the committee is now determined to focus all its energy on 2021.
"The Festival Committee has been monitoring the COVID-19 developments over the last month. We remained hopeful that this situation would improve enough that we would be able to move forward with our plans for the festival this year," Wenger said in a news release. "Our priority, however, is to encourage the ongoing recovery efforts due to the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic and ensure that our guests, vendors, entertainers, volunteers and committee members are safe and healthy so we may continue putting on our great festival for years to come."
