A new counselling support line will help those in Windsor-Essex suffering emotionally and mentally during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Worry and anxiety are common problems at the best of times," said Joyce Zuk, the executive director of Family Services Windsor-Essex. "As the impact of COVID-19 in the Windsor-Essex community and the need for physical isolation continues, these feelings can become overwhelming."
The Windsor Essex COVID Care Coalition has launched the Windsor Essex Counselling Support Line. It will be open for calls 24-hours daily, seven days a week.
The number is 519-946-3277 or 1-877-451-1055.
Counselling is in English and French, but translation services are available, and it is confidential.
Meanwhile, the Canadian Mental Health Association, Windsor-Essex County Branch, has hired a new Pandemic Response Therapist.
It was able to make the hire thanks to a $70,000 donation from the Toldo Foundation.
"From feelings of isolation and grief to the extreme stresses experienced by our first responders and essential service providers, this pandemic has impacted so many in different ways," said Anthony G. Toldo, a trustee of the foundation.
The association anticipates the therapist will help those experiencing heightened anxiety and depression among those who have lost a loved one during the pandemic.
