Flooding concerns linger along Lake Erie

Areas along the Lake Erie shoreline and Erie Shore Drive could be hit with more flooding this week.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) issued a flood watch for the area on Wednesday afternoon.

Flooding concerns will be heightened on Thursday as moderate winds are expected to gust up to 30 kilometres an hour from a west and southwest direction. Waves on Lake Erie are expected to reach up to 1.5 metres in height.

Conservation officials said long-range forecasts show that powerful wind gusts should also be expected over the weekend and possibly into next week.

The current flood watch in effect comes just days after a gale warning was issued for Lake Erie, that prompted flood watches and warnings for several areas in Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex.

Residents and workers on Erie Shore Drive and along the shoreline are being told to keep an eye on conditions as lake levels are already high.

The flood watch is expected to remain in effect until Friday.
