With Easter long weekend upon us, staff at Huron Perth Public Health is asking residents to ensure they keep practicing social distancing to stop the spread of COVID-19 during the holiday.
For anyone marking upcoming religious events such as Easter, Passover or Ramadan, or family birthdays, celebrations will look different this spring.
Residents are reminded to never be in groups of more than five when going outside, and to not have anyone inside your home who isn't already living there. Passing around food or things like phones while out in small groups is also not recommended, and small children may have a hard time understanding the two metre rule.
“I am confident that residents can mark religious events or celebrate birthdays or family events while respecting physical distancing,” said Dr. Miriam Klassen, Medical Officer of Health. “It’s very important that we connect with each other through different ways, such as telephone, internet or outside from a safe distance. Do not host people (inside or outside) who do not already live in your home.”
Residents are also reminded that the restriction on gatherings of more than five has been made under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act and charges can be laid on anyone not adhering to the rules.
As of Wednesday, Huron-Perth has 24 cases of COVID-19. One person remains in hospital in London and the rest are self-isolating at home.
Currently, two long-term care homes have confirmed cases of COVID-19. Hillside Manor has one case and Greenwood Court has confirmed eight cases.
