Bruce County has made what they're calling a "difficult decision" to cancel some specific household hazardous waste collection events due to COVID-19.
The two events that have been cancelled are May 2 at the Southampton Public Works Yard and May 9 at the Kincardine Public Works Yard. Residents are being asked to properly store their hazardous waste until the program can continue and waste can be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.
The county is urging all residents to stay home and practice proper social distancing guidelines. Residents will be informed if any other waste collection events are cancelled.
“We’re taking this measure to limit the risk of coming into close contact with other people in public areas,” said Miguel Pelletier, director of Transportation and Environmental Services. “This is the time to stay at home, practice social distancing and help flatten the curve of COVID-19.”
