In response to countless Canadians who are currently out of work due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government will be providing temporary income support through the Canada Emergency Response Benefit.
Canadian workers who have stopped working and are without employment income because of the pandemic will be able to apply for the benefit starting on Monday, April 6.
Those who qualify will be paid $2,000 every four weeks, up to a maximum of 16 weeks.
The benefit will be retroactive to March 15 and can cover Canadians up until October 3. The government will accept applications until December 2.
To apply, you must be a Canadian resident and at least 15 years old. As well, you must have made at least $5,000 in 2019 or in the 12 months prior to the date of submitting an application.
Those who are out of work for reasons other than the COVID-19 pandemic do not qualify.
