Shell's Sarnia Manufacturing Centre is helping to create nearly one million 12 ounce bottles of hand sanitizer for use in Canada's hospitals and medical facilities.
The company announced in a Facebook post that the site is providing 125,000 litres of isopropyl alcohol (IPA), the main component of sanitizer, to the federal government free of charge.
Shell said the local facility's employees have been working especially hard since mid-March to meet the increased demand for IPA due to COVID-19.
"Now more than ever, essential services such as healthcare, food distribution and sanitation depend on a reliable energy supply," the post read. "But what is less known is that our industry is also making some of the key ingredients in products that are helping to slow the spread of COVID-19 such as hand sanitizers, soaps, and surface cleaners."
