Health minister provides a COVID-19 update

Provincial officials are hesitating to give projections of how many cases of COVID-19 we can expect to see over the coming days and weeks.

Deputy Premier and Health Minister Christine Elliott told reporters during a news conference Wednesday they are still working to clear the backlog of 10,000 tests.

Once the final 3,100 of those are processed, Elliott said they will have a better idea of what's happened over the past week to 10 days.

"What is going to be most important is what we're going to see when the backlog is cleared over the next day or so," said Elliott. "We will then be dealing with current information."

"The point of the model is to give you guidance on how to deal with a situation," added Elliott. "We are trying to flatten that curve every day. We can't predict right now what's going to happen because a model is just that, a model. We are dealing with what's happening in the real world."
