Huron County to hold first electronic council meeting

Huron County Warden Jim Ginn says Wednesday morning's county council meeting will the first time a regular county council meeting has been held electronically.

Ginn says a special county council meeting last week was the first electronic meeting for council and it took some getting used to.

But he's confident they've worked some of the bugs out now and it's important that they hold the meetings safely.

"We don't want our economy to shut down, we want to keep it going as much as we can, so planning issues certainly have to go forward, just the everyday business. Of course we have to pay our staff. The list goes on and on and so those approvals have to be granted by county council and we'll conduct our meeting as best we can," said Ginn.

Ginn adds, the combination of electronic meetings and the number of people working at home, puts a lot of pressure on the communications system.

"We'll see how it goes. There will certainly be changes for the next county council meeting, but, just working through with IT and of course a lot of our communications line are swamped by people working from home and other people holding meetings electronically. So, it's difficult," added Ginn.
