Saying it is another difficult decision to make in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the mayor of Tecumseh has cancelled this year's Easter Egg Hunt and Earth Day Celebration.
The egg hunt, sponsored by the Optimist Club of St. Clair Beach, was expected to go this Saturday. The Town of Tecumseh's Earth Day Celebration was planned for April 22.
"I know the community looks forward to our spring activities. However, I am hopeful everyone understands and can support these decisions," said Mayor Gary McNamara.
Tecumseh Parks and Recreation Services staff is working with local groups and organizations on other upcoming events.
Community sport organizations that use the town's parks and recreation facilities have been informed those venues are closed.
"The town will continue to work with all of its user groups to facilitate the required cancellations and will work with event organizers to reschedule events wherever possible once restrictions are lifted," said Parks and Recreation Director Paul Anthony.
Anyone with questions regarding programs run by outside organizations should contact it directly, or to go to their website for up-to-date information.
Meanwhile, acting on the advice of the Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health, the Town of Lakeshore is closing its municipal parks. Last week, it closed all regional and community parks.
Lakeshore town staff are erecting signs at parks and removing swings to discourage families and children from playing on playground equipment.
"Lakeshore is taking every step possible to encourage people to reduce the spread of this virus," said Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain. "You have heard it before, and I will say it again, stay home."
