Aamjiwnaang orders pot and tobacco shops to close

Aamjiwnaang has notified cannabis and tobacco-related retail shops operating on the First Nation that they have until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday to close.

The new measure, announced by band council Monday, is meant to restrict traffic in the community and help curb the spread of COVID-19.

A notice from Chief Chris Plain and council said band operations will remain limited to the essential services and staff will continue to work from home where possible.

Gas stations, convenience stores and takeout food operations are still permitted to operate.
