The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is closing BMX and skate parks to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Dr. David Colby, Chatham-Kent’s Medical Officer of Health, added both BMX and skate parks to the list of bans and closures on Sunday following the province's decision to prohibit social gatherings of more than five people (with a few exceptions).
“These increased measures are taking place to ensure physical distancing across our community," said Colby in a statement. "Simply put, you should not be within two metres of someone who does not live within your household.”
The closure of municipal BMX and skate parks follows a previous closure of city-owned playground equipment, publicly-owned basketball and tennis courts, and picnic areas.
