Bluewater Power is welcoming the Ontario government's decision to suspend time-of-use pricing for at least the next six weeks.
President and CEO Janice McMichael-Dennis said customers will now pay off-peak prices regardless of the time of day.
"We had been working behind the scenes with our industry, with the provincial government, trying to make this a reality for customers," said McMichael-Dennis. "This is important to our customers and we had been waiting for the official announcement, so that we can get this rolled out to our people locally. We simply couldn't be happier to see this announcement come out of the province."
The discount will be automatically applied to hydro bills and there is no application process for customers.
"We will have to make some system changes, but we are already working on that. It is indeed effective today [Tuesday], so we're just wrapping our heads around that. We've done a lot of prep work and all of our wonderful skilled people here are on the job making that happen. But effective today, off-peak rates, all day, every day for the next 45 days."
McMichael-Dennis said it will provide some help to those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Our average residential customer will see about a $15-a-month impact from this change and certainly every bit helps, so we're glad to be able to help be part of a solution for our customers."
By switching to a fixed off-peak rate, time-of-use customers will see rate reductions of over 50 per cent compared to on-peak rates.
Bluewater Power announced last week it was being as flexible as possible when dealing with the payment of bills.
