West Grey declares State of Emergency in response to COVID-19

The Municipality of West Grey has declared a state of emergency in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

While there are still no confirmed cases in West Grey, the municipality issued a news release on Monday and said the safety of residents is the top priority.

“The spread of COVID-19 and the safety of our residents remains our top priority,” said Mayor Christine Robinson. “West Grey is joining with several other municipalities to declare a state of emergency to signal the seriousness of this pandemic and the importance of proactive measures.”

West Grey residents are reminded to follow all safety and health precautions, such as frequently washing your hands, Cough and sneeze into your sleeve or a tissue. Dispose of tissue immediately and wash your hands, keep surfaces clean and disinfected, and stay home, if you can. If you must go out, practice social distancing of at least two metres or six feet.

All municipal parks and buildings are closed, and all meetings and scheduled events in West Grey have been postponed or cancelled. The municipality will continue delivering essential services like waste/water systems, garbage/recycling pickup and landfills, winter road maintenance, and fire and police services.
