Sarnia council is the latest group to embrace technology during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Council agreed in a teleconference Monday morning to waive normal rules of procedure for emergency purposes.
City councillors will now be able to conduct meetings by teleconference, with the first scheduled this Wednesday to discuss action items.
Municipalities were given the right to teleconference for votes -- throughout the emergency -- by the province last week.
After the daily morning teleconference with the Sarnia Primary Control Group Monday, Mayor Mike Bradley once again urged people to follow the advice of public health officials.
"There is a portion of the population, obviously from all of the anecdotal reports coming in, who simply aren't accepting the seriousness of what is happening with this virus and the more people are not responding to the distancing issue, the more we're going to prolong this crisis [by] not just weeks, into months," said Bradley.
Bradley said he anticipates if people don't follow social distancing advice from public health officials senior government will step-in.
"It's like going into a crowd and firing blindly when people are not respecting how serious this crisis is," he said.
Ontario reported 78 new COVID-19 cases Monday, bringing the provincial total to 503. It was the largest one day increase so far.
There were still no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Sarnia-Lambton Monday morning but local health officials continue to approach the situation as though the virus is circulating throughout the community. Testing is very limited due to a global shortage of test kits and priority is being given to the critically ill, and front line essential service workers.
