Sarnia police services modified in response to pandemic

The Sarnia Police Service has modified some non-emergency services in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The public is asked not to attend police facilities unless it's absolutely necessary.

Those who come to the station may be subject to non-intrusive screening for the virus. Members may be seen wearing protective gloves and masks.

Constable John Sottosanti said there are also some changes to the Collision Reporting Centre. (CRC)

"If they are in a collision and are either able to have their vehicle driven to the station or have it towed and attend at the station, that you contact the Collision Reporting Centre via a cellphone at 519-346-4648," said Sottosanti. "An individual from the CRC will come out and deal with you in the parking lot."

Sottosanti said there will be a screening question asked during all calls for service before an officer is dispatched.

The department is also limiting non-essential meetings, events, and training.

There have been no service disruptions at this time.

Record check applications must be accessed online at www.sarniapolice.com, and you can make Freedom of Information requests by mailing the detachment.

Sottosanti also said that any individual with a scheduled date to have fingerprints taken at the police station is being told not to attend until further notice is given.

This relates to individuals facing criminal charges who have been released to attend for fingerprints at a later date.
