Police in Chatham-Kent are issuing a warning about scam artists who are taking advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic to try trick residents into giving out personal information.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said a woman in Wallaceburg received a call during the afternoon hours on Monday, from someone who said they would be attending her home to assess her for the novel coronavirus.
"The Chatham-Kent Police Service and CK Public Health would like to remind citizens that there is no door-to-door COVID-19 testing being done in our community," police officials said in a news release.
Residents are urged not to provide any person or medical information should they receive a similar call. And if anyone comes to your home claiming they are providing door-to-door COVID-19 screening, police officials said you should ask them to leave and call the Chatham-Kent Police Service at 519-352-1234 ext. 9.
