A Chesley grocer says there's no need for people to hoard food.
Steve Schuknecht, manager of the Chesley Grocery Store, said they have a reasonable supply chain for meat, dairy, produce and canned goods. As well, cleaning products are available. Schuknecht said smalltown grocery stores are not nearly as crowded as those in the big cities. But they're starting to see people in their store they've never seen before.
"People are coming from the big cities to the smaller towns because the big city stores don't have all this stuff anymore or are having an issue trying to get some of this stuff so they're coming into the small towns to try to get it," said Schuknecht.
He said toilet paper is a different story. Suppliers of that are unable to keep up.
He added employees are taking precautions to keep themselves and customers safe. For instance, debit machines are sanitized after each use.
Schuknecht said the Chesley Grocery Store will stay open during the crisis to serve the local community.
"We're the only grocery store in town so if people need food we like to keep them in the town. If we don't stay open then they're travelling out and beyond. We like to provide service to the local people," said Schuknect.
