Border restrictions have left a hockey player from Chatham-Kent scrambling to get home from overseas.
Dane Fox, who currently plays for the Frederikshavn White Hawks, has been trying to get out of Denmark for several days now. This comes after Danish hockey league Metal Ligaen decided to suspend play over coronavirus concerns.
On Sunday, the 26-year-old took to Twitter to air his grievances, stating that he, his girlfriend, and their dog were trying to get a flight back home to Canada and were running out of options.
U.S. President Donald Trump recently banned all flights from Europe from landing in the United States amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
To make matters worse, Fox's emotional support dog, Gunner, is a boxer breed and is not allowed to be shipped into Canada in cargo, making flights into his home country impossible. The airline rule about the dog breed was put into place by several airlines over concerns that snubbed-nose dogs may have respiratory problems during air travel.
Fox said he typically flys home on U.S. airlines where emotional support animals are permitted in the cabin.
When reached for comment by Blackburn News on Monday afternoon, Fox said the whole ordeal has been a mess and he was still in the process of finalizing flights.
He said his plan right now is to rent a car and drive to Copenhagen, fly to Paris on Wednesday, fly from Paris to Calgary then drive home.
