The healthcare centre, located on Prince Road in Windsor, confirmed the results in a release Sunday.
Officials at the hospital said they learned Thursday morning that the physician had developed the symptoms while on a cruise.
HDGH said they had notified all patients and staff who were in isolation pending the results.
Alan Smith will begin his new role with the municipality on July 20.
