A positive case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in London-Middlesex.
According to The Middlesex-London Health Unit, the patient is a woman in her 50s who is a non-hospital health-care worker with no history of travel to areas that have been significantly affected by the novel coronavirus.
The woman entered the Victoria Hospital’s Emergency Department on Thursday and was assessed, treated and released the same day. She's currently showcasing 'mild' symptoms and is self-isolating at home.
Health unit staff are continuing to determine the source of the illness and following up with her close contacts, who have also been advised to self-isolate for two weeks.
“What this shows is the measures we’ve taken so far have been appropriate and that we as a community have to remain diligent in taking steps to contain this virus and limit its spread,” says Dr. Chris Mackie, Medical Officer of Health and CEO of the Middlesex-London Health Unit. “These are extraordinary times and more than ever we need to use extra caution. We need to follow the standard infection prevention measures that we can all take to keep ourselves, our families and our neighbours healthy.”
This is the second confirmed case in the London area. In late January, a female student at Western University who travelled to China tested positive for the virus. She recovered within several days.
