Maroons fall 5-3 to Vipers in Game 6

The Chatham Maroons dropped a 5-3 decision against the LaSalle Vipers on Saturday to force Game 7 in the quarterfinals.

LaSalle jumped on the board first and Chatham answered with a goal by Lucas Fancy 7:40 into the first period. The Vipers retook the lead with a goal from Hayden Heinrich before Fancy tied things up again at 2-2 with his second goal of the game -- this time, shorthanded.

LaSalle got back on the board in the second period with a power play goal from Evan Ferguson to take a 3-2 lead.

Fancy completed the hat trick early in third to tie the game again at 3-3, but Kyle Walker tipped in a shot from the point to give LaSalle a 4-3 lead midway through the period and the Vipers added an empty net goal to cap off their 5-3 win.

Chatham's goaltender Kevin Linker made 34 saves out of 38 shots on net.

The Maroons are now tied with the Vipers in the best of seven series 3-3. Chatham will travel to the Vollmer Recreation Complex to play a final game against LaSalle at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
