UPDATE: Taxi Driver Charged with Drunk Driving

A Chatham cab driver has been fired after being charged with impaired driving when his passengers called the police to report him.

Police officers arrested the 58-year-old man around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday and gave him a roadside breath test, which he allegedly failed. He was taken to police headquarters for more breath tests.

As a result of the investigation, William Gould of Chatham has been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. None of the allegations have been proven in court.

Blackburn News has also learned that Gould was fired from his job at Courtesy Cabs in Chatham shortly after his arrest.

"Police would like to thank the passengers of the cab for their diligence in reporting their road safety concerns," said Constable Renee Cowell, Public Information Officer with Chatham-Kent police. "If you suspect someone is driving while impaired, please call 911 immediately."

Domestic Assault and Uttering Threats

Chatham-Kent police have charged two men after some violent behaviour.

A 23-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault shortly after midnight on Friday after officers went to a Chatham apartment for a domestic disturbance call. Police said an argument escalated into a fight.

Then on Thursday, a man wanted for domestic-related offences turned himself in at police headquarters. The 40-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with mischief and uttering threats.

Man Arrested on Outstanding Warrants

A Walpole Island man wanted for shoplifting has been arrested.

The 42-year-old man was taken into custody early Friday morning in connection with a shoplifting incident at Shoppers Drug Mart in Chatham and failing to attend court in January.

Stolen Truck in Chatham

The search is on for whomever stole a truck in Chatham.

Investigators said the green and gray 2004 GMC Sierra pick-up truck was taken sometime between Wednesday at 9 p.m. and Thursday at 8:30 a.m. from a home on Oxley Drive. The truck was last seen with Ontario license plates BB42 021.

Storage Unit Theft

Police in Chatham is investigating a theft from three storage units on Queen's Line.

They said someone forced their way into the units late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning and took approximately $2,000 worth of property.
