Wrong-way driver on Highway 40 charged with impaired

A Tupperville man is facing impaired driving charges after a vehicle caused a head-on crash while being driven the wrong way on Highway 40.

Lambton OPP responded to the crash in St. Clair Township at around 4:45 a.m. on Sunday.

Police said a vehicle was travelling north in the southbound lane when his vehicle struck a southbound vehicle.

Police said only minor injuries were reported, but it is unknown if anyone was taken to hospital.

The driver was taken to the OPP detachment in Petrolia where police said two breath samples above the legal limit were provided.

A 21-year-old Tupperville man is now charged with having a blood alcohol concentration 80 plus and operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs. He has a court date in Sarnia on March 23.
