Following Friday's contract talks with the provincial government, the union representing Ontario's French Language teachers said it would hold a province-wide, one-day strike on Thursday.
It was the 27th day of negotiation between AEFO, the province, and the Employer Bargaining Agency, but the union said, "very little progress had been made."
"AEFO is in a stalemate with school boards and Minister of Education, Stephen Lecce," said AEFO President Remi Sabourin. "We feel that they continue to turn a deaf ear to teachers' requests. Going forward, AEFO has no desire to engage in anything less than true dialogue."
The union's board of directors will meet in Toronto on Tuesday to discuss what comes next for its 12,000 members in Ontario. On the agenda, a re-evaluation of its strike strategy.
Thursday's walkout will include pickets at 93 locations. A list of those locations will be released Monday.
Meanwhile, French Language teachers are continuing their work to rule campaign in schools.
Those teachers will not send or respond to emails outside school hours, perform any task that is not their responsibility or enter data on the Trillium system. They will continue to plan lessons, deliver programs, and evaluate students. Emails from parents will be answered.
The province's English Catholic school teachers, represented by the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association, will also walk off the job Thursday in a province-wide show of solidarity with their provincial bargaining team.
