Drunk driver hits hydro pole

A 56-year-old Chatham man is facing an impaired driving charge in connection with a single-vehicle crash on Longwoods Road near West Bothwell Road.

Chatham-Kent police were called to the scene just before 9 p.m. Sunday and determined that the driver had lost control of his vehicle before it went off the road and hit a hydro pole.

No injuries were reported, but officers believed the man was driving under the influence of alcohol, so they took him back to police headquarters for breath tests.

After those tests, the accused was charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit and was later released with conditions and a future court date.
