Vehicle weight restrictions start this weekend

Municipal officials in Chatham-Kent are putting their annual load limits in place again this weekend.

It affects a majority of the road system in the municipality during the spring thaw and officially comes into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, March 1. It is expected to end on April 30 (weather pending). During that time, vehicles will be restricted to a maximum of five tonnes per axle.

A release from the municipality said the limits are put in place "to protect the road base from damage caused by wheel loads of heavy vehicles, and to increase the lifecycle of municipal roadways."

Roads that are affected by the seasonal weight restrictions are identified with a sign, and reduced load limits will be enforced.
