The Wallaceburg emergency department has received a donation to help buy life-saving equipment.
The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation raised $16,000 at its 9th Annual Charity Curling Classic on Saturday at the Sydenham Community Curling Club in Wallaceburg.
Sixty-four curlers participated to help Chatham-Kent Health Alliance towards their goal of purchasing an automated chest compression device.
"We love being out in Wallaceburg," said Gaye Thompson, Board Chair, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation. "The enthusiasm for healthcare shown by this community has once again helped us to enhance the services offered at CKHA’s Wallaceburg hospital site."
The curlers enjoyed live music performed by local artist Al Kominek, lunch, a roast beef dinner from the Black Goose, a silent auction, a "Hit the Ham" contest, a 50/50 raffle, and a chance to win prizes. Tobin Richardson, Lisa Richardson, Jennifer Demars, and Paul Demars finished the bonspiel in first place. Wayne Negrave was the event’s top individual fundraiser, collecting a total of $753 in pledges.
"What a fantastic day," said CEO of Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Lori Marshall. "Our hospital is so fortunate to be supported by such a great event organized by the foundation. The equipment they are helping to fund will have a significant impact on our emergency department staff, as well as our patient experience in Wallaceburg."
The bonspiel was made possible by sponsors ProResp, Entegrus, TekSavvy, Cavanagh Funeral Home, Mares Insurance Services Inc., Bailey Kearney Ferguson LLP, McDonald’s in Wallaceburg, and Dresden Foodland.
