Meat cleaver involved in alleged assault

A 29-year-old Chatham man is facing charges for allegedly assaulting a 60-year-old man with a meat cleaver.

Police said the 60-year-old went to police headquarters around 11 p.m. on Wednesday to report an incident. The alleged assault took place at a residence in Chatham. Police said the two men know each other.

The 60-year-old was taken to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance with non-life-threatening injuries. A 29-year-old man was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, aggravated assault, and three counts of failing to comply with his release conditions.

Stolen items posted on Facebook

Nearly two years after someone stole three autographed baseballs, police have recovered them after they were posted on Facebook Marketplace.

Police said the baseballs were taken during a break-in on Stanley Avenue in Chatham on Sept. 28, 2018. Officers said the stolen baseballs were posted for sale on Facebook on Wednesday.

A 33-year-old Chatham man has been charged with being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000. He has a future court date set for February 12.

Copper wire theft causes more damage than it's worth

Chatham-Kent police are investigating a copper wire theft that left behind $20,000 worth of damages.

Police said someone forced their way into a fenced compound on Queen Street in Chatham, sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

A mobile transformer was damaged just to get to $100 worth of copper and brass.

Charges laid in traffic enforcement

Officers are reminding drivers to be mindful of their speed as they continue to conduct traffic enforcement.

The traffic unit was out on Queens Line on Wednesday afternoon, where three people were charged with speeding.
