Catholic teachers across Ontario are hitting the picket lines Tuesday, January 21.
Last week, the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) announced a one day strike if a deal could not be reached with the provincial government.
OECTA, which represents both elementary and secondary Catholic teachers, said it has met with the government almost 40 times and is accusing them of being “disorganized and disrespectful” throughout the process.
St. Clair Secondary Unit President Chad Coene said locally, all Catholic teachers will be gathered at two schools.
"To show our strength and our numbers, we will be at St. Patrick's High School and also at Ursuline College, UCC in Chatham," said Coene. "We will be picketing from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. If there are any members of the public, parents, students, graduates of our great system, they are more than welcome to join us on the picket line because this is everybody's fight for quality education in Ontario."
Coene said no new talks have been scheduled at this time.
The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario is staging rotating one-day strikes each day this week. Lambton-Kent is not among the boards being targeted this week.
