Pork Conference returns to CK

"Looking ahead with 2020 vision" is the theme of the upcoming South Western Ontario Pork Conference (SWOPC).

The 58th annual conference will be held at the University of Guelph Ridgetown campus on Feb. 19.

The speaker for this year's conference is co-owner and swine nutritionist of Groupe Cérès Inc., Dan Bussières. He will be speaking on “Optimizing Feeding & Management Strategies”.

“It’s all about keeping the producers informed and up-to-date and providing a place for industry reps to visit with their customers, “says Darren Sloan, chair of the 2020 SWOPC Planning Committee.

Pork producers can start with a tour of the campus swine teaching facility at 12:30 p.m. and then on to the industry trade show by 2 p.m. The day continues with an incredible speaker line up starting at 4 p.m. Attendees can also visit the teaching barn and then spend time visiting industry partners and enjoying complimentary coffee and refreshments before the program kicks off at 4 p.m.

A new addition to this year's conference is the Innovation Project Contest. Sloan says the contest will reward farmers with the best time-saving ideas.

"We are hoping attendees will take time and submit some of their great innovations being used on their farm”, says Sloan.

This year's conference will also have a different location for the conference registration and the trade show. Sloan says the location change to Wilson Hall was made in an effort to streamline the conference.

“We are excited to offer pork producers in Southwestern Ontario an event which showcases the pork industry at the trade show and also educates by the excellent presentations we have arranged. This conference has lots to offer and all pork producers should plan to attend”.
