The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) has issued another flood watch for the Lake Erie Shoreline and Erie Shore Drive.
Strong winds from out of the south and southwest are forecast to arrive on Sunday afternoon. The winds are predicted to pick up and could pass 35 km/hour early Sunday afternoon and will continue until Sunday evening. According to the conservation authority, the winds are currently forecasted to peak at 46 km/hour with gusts up to 70 km/hour. In addition, waves on Lake Erie are predicted to build to two meters in height by Sunday evening.
The high waves could damage the shoreline and cause erosion along the Lake Erie shoreline in Chatham-Kent and Elgin County. There is possible flooding in low-lying, south-facing shorelines along Erie Shore Drive in Chatham Kent.
The LTVCA adds that forecasts suggest there could be periods of more southerly wind directions during this period which can produce worse flooding.
Residents should pay attention to local conditions and be prepared and should take extra precautions or avoid the shoreline.
The watch is in effect until Monday.
