Man charged with assault

A 44 -year-old Merlin man was arrested and charged with two counts of assault.

Police went to an address in Merlin to check the well-being of a resident on Monday. While the officers were there, the resident told police officers about several previous assaults that had allegedly happened earlier in the year.

After an investigation, a 44-year-old man was arrested and charged with two counts of assault.

He was later released from custody with a future court date.

Man charged with theft and possession of stolen property

A 28-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property.

According to police, a Loss Prevention employee observed a man concealing food items in his coat before allegedly leaving without paying at a business on St. Clair Street in Chatham on Monday. When confronted by the employee, the accused left the business on his bicycle.

When police arrived, they found the man attempting to hide in the area.

The man was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and possession of stolen property under $5000.

He was later released from custody with a future court date.

RIDE Program results in charges 

A 33-year-old Chatham man had his vehicle towed and impounded after being charged with driving while disqualified.

Officers conducted RIDE programs at various locations within Chatham on Monday.

As a result, about 225 vehicles were stopped, seven tickets were issued, and a man had his vehicle towed and impounded after being arrested and charged with driving while disqualified.

He was released from custody with a future court date.

Man charged with assault with a weapon

A 25-year-old Blenheim man was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon.

After being arrested and charged for break and enter, assault, assault with a weapon, and two counts of uttering threats, the accused man was released from custody on Nov. 15, 2019, with a number of conditions.

These conditions included house arrest, not to communicate with several individuals, and not to enter an address in Tilbury.

Police say the man breached his conditions after entering the address on Crawford Street in Tilbury and communicating with one of the victims on Monday.

When the accused was confronted by a friend of the victim, he allegedly struck the friend with a broom.

Police entered the residence and found the accused hiding in a bedroom closet inside the residence.

The man was arrested and charged with three counts of breach of recognizance as well as assault with a weapon.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Man and woman arrested on warrants 

A 27-year-old Chatham woman and a 38-year-old Chatham man were charged with possession of property.

An officer entered an address on Lacroix Street in Chatham in response to a call for service on Dec. 19, 2019.  While there, he saw two vehicle keys inside the residence and seized them as suspected stolen property. The keys were later found to be stolen and used to steal two vehicles in Chatham. Both of the vehicles have been recovered and returned to their owners.

Warrants were issued for the arrest of a man and woman in connection with this investigation.

A man and a woman were both present at the courthouse in Chatham where they were placed under arrest on the strength of these warrants on Monday.

The pair was charged with two counts of possession of stolen property under $5000.

The woman was released from custody with a future court date. The man has been held in custody.

Man arrested on warrants 

A 23-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested on several charges.

An officer in Wallaceburg found a man on Montgomery Crescent on Monday around 10:15 a.m., who was known to be wanted on several outstanding warrants

The man was arrested for possession of stolen property under $5000, fraud under $5000, use of stolen credit card, two counts of Fail to comply, and an outstanding committal warrant.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Man arrested on warrant 

A 42-year-old Walpole Island man was charged with theft and possession of stolen property.

A man entered a store on Queen Street in Chatham and allegedly stole a PlayStation 4 and four video games valued at $520 on Nov.27, 2019.

The man was identified through the store surveillance video footage and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Police found the accused man at an address on Murray Street in Wallaceburg on Monday around 6:20 p.m. and he was placed under arrest.

The accused has been charged with theft under $5000 and possession of stolen property under $5000.

He was later released from custody with a future court date.

Man arrested on warrant 

A 24-year-old Chatham man was arrested on two counts of theft and fail to attend in court.

Officers entered an address on King Street East in Chatham for a family dispute on Monday around 10 p.m.

Police discovered that one of the people involved was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

The man was arrested for two counts of theft under $5000 as well as fail to attend court.

He was later released from custody with a future court date.
