Female employee allegedly assaulted while locking up

A 69-year-old Chatham man has been slapped with an assault charge after allegedly pushing a woman who was closing up a local business.

Police said it happened last Friday in Chatham.

Officers said the man is accused of pushing the woman into a door in an attempt to force his way past her after she told him that the business was closed.

The man left the store once a second employee showed up and told him to leave.

Police said the woman who was pushed was taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Officers arrested a suspect in connection with the case Monday night and charged him with assault causing bodily harm. He was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Break-in at cell phone tower

Chatham-Kent police are looking for leads after someone broke into a Rogers cell phone tower on Ivan Road in Chatham and took off with some valuable equipment.

Police said their investigation so far shows that someone forced their way into the fenced compound sometime on Monday, cut several wires and stole some batteries.

The total value of the theft and damage is estimated at $50,000.

Charges laid after two crashes

Two drivers are facing charges after a pair of crashes in Chatham-Kent on Monday.

Officers said they were called to a two-vehicle collision on St. Clair Street near Pioneer Line in Chatham at around 10 a.m.

Police said one person suffered non-life threatening injuries and a Chatham woman was charged with disobeying a red light.

The second crash took place several hours later -- at around 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Officers said they were called to a two-vehicle collision on Longwoods Road near Standaert Road in Chatham and charged a 23-year-old Kingsville man with an undisclosed offence in connection with that crash.

The damage was estimated at $25,000 but no injuries were reported.

Wanted Wallaceburg man arrested

A 33-year-old Wallaceburg man who was wanted for failing to comply with his release conditions is back in police custody.

Chatham-Kent police said officers in Sarnia picked him up Monday afternoon.

He was taken back to Chatham-Kent for court purposes.

Domestic disturbance leads to charges

Chatham-Kent police have arrested a 69-year-old Blind River man after an argument at a Chatham residence took a nasty turn Monday night.

Police said the man was arrested after officers heard that a verbal argument between the man and a woman escalated into a physical altercation.

The accused was charged with assault.
