Canadian pork and beef exports to China will resume, according to the prime minister.
Justin Trudeau tweeted the long-awaited news for farmers Tuesday afternoon, giving thanks to Ambassador Dominic Barton and the Canadian meat industry for their work in re-opening the market for producers.
The announcement comes four months after Beijing blocked shipments while citing falsified paperwork.
The dispute erupted as diplomatic tensions between Canada and China soared, following the arrested of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou last December.
Guy Saint-Jacques, former Canadian ambassador to China, said the devastating outbreak of African swine flu in China likely played a role in the resolution of the dispute.
China continues to block imports of Canadian canola, claiming contamination, a case which Canada has taken to the World Trade Organization.
