Attempted murder suspect finally makes bail

An attempted murder suspect who is accused of running down a man in Chatham has finally made bail.

Andrew Herdman, 32, of Windsor was released from custody on Friday on $5,000 bail with some conditions.

Justice Angela Renaud told Herdman he is to stay at least 50 feet away from the victim and his girlfriend and is to have no contact with them. He has been ordered not to buy, consume, or possess drugs or alcohol. He can't have any weapons, he is not to sit in the front seat of any vehicle, he is not to visit Chatham-Kent while he is on bail, except to speak to his lawyer or attend court, and is to be with his surety at all times.

Herdman had previously tried several times to get someone to come forward to put up the bail money without success.

Herdman was charged with attempted murder after a pedestrian he knows was hit by a vehicle in Chatham on September 21. Chatham-Kent police said the victim was struck on Harvey Street  around 4 a.m. that day, but the driver failed to remain at the scene. Investigators believe the hit and run was intentional.

The victim was taken to a Windsor hospital with a severe concussion.

More details can't be made public because there is a publication ban in place.
