A 32-year-old Windsor man accused of intentionally running down another man with his vehicle in Chatham remains in jail waiting for bail.
Andrew Herdman is charged with attempted murder and is waiting to get bailed out. He was in Chatham court for a bail hearing on Tuesday where two sureties came forward to make arrangements but the justice of the peace is taking her time to make a decision on whether bail will be granted or not. Justice Angela Renaud said she didn't want to rush it and is worried Herdman might be a flight risk.
The crown prosecutor is asking for $5,000 bail.
Justice Renaud will have her decision on Friday.
Herdman is charged with attempted murder after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in Chatham on September 21. Chatham-Kent police said the victim was struck on Harvey Street on Saturday around 4 a.m. but the driver failed to remain at the scene. Investigators later discovered the driver and the victim know each other and believe the hit and run was intentional. The victim was taken to a Windsor hospital where at last check he remained in serious but stable condition.
