UPDATE: Fire destroys barn near Kincardine

The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called to help determine the cause of a massive barn fire near Kincardine.

An estimated 1,500 to 1,700 pigs perished in the blaze on Highway 9 between Kincardine and Bervie.

Fire Chief Kent Padfield said they responded to the call about 11:30 p.m. Monday night.

"Firefighters from Kincardine and Tiverton fire stations in Kincardine, as well we were assisted by Ripley Huron and Teeswater Fire Departments providing tankers for us," he added.

Firefighters were on scene all day Tuesday to ensure there were no hot spots, and assist the fire marshal.

No one was injured.

The fire has resulted in significant losses with initial estimates being around $1.5 million as the barn was destroyed.
