Erie Shore Drive faces more flooding

The flood-prone area of Erie Shore Drive in Chatham-Kent is once again under a flood warning.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority issued the warning late Tuesday afternoon and said the area along Erie Shore Drive is already experiencing flooding due to strong southwest winds.

"There is water on many properties and around some of the homes," the conservation authority said in a news release. "There is also water flowing over the road. Erie Shore Drive remains closed to traffic. Please avoid the area if possible."

The stong winds are expected to continue into Thursday, which could result in further flooding.  Wind speeds are also expected to increase on Tuesday evening with waves reaching up to three metres in height on the lake.

Everyone is asked to avoid the area to ensure safety.

"The waves on the lakes can be strong, and the shoreline slippery. There could also be hazardous debris within the waves and water, which could be thrown onto the shoreline. Standing water can also present unseen hazards," the conservation authority said. "Children especially should be kept away from the water."

The flood warning will remain in effect until October 25, 2019.
