Domestic assault arrests

Chatham-Kent police have made two arrests in connection with a pair of domestic assault investigations.

In the first case, police said a 22-year-old Wheatley man was charged with one count of assault after officers got a call about a man assaulting his wife during an argument in their home at around 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Officers said the woman was able to leave the residence, but was still followed by the man until she was able to contact police.

The accused was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

In the second case, a 41-year-old Bothwell man was arrested and charged after police were called in for a separate domestic assault investigation.

Officers got that call at around 11 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators said they learned that the victim had allegedly been assaulted by her husband in two separate incidents over a period of approximately two hours.

The accused in that case was arrested, charged with two counts of assault, and taken into custody for a bail hearing.

Drunk in public

A 26-year-old Chatham woman spent the night in police custody after she was turned away from a different residence in Chatham.

Police said they were called to the address on Murray Street at around 11:30 p.m. Sunday and learned that the woman was "unwanted" by the occupants there.

Officers said the woman was allegedly intoxicated and unable to care for herself, so they arrested her for public intoxication, and took her into custody until she sobered up.
