Serious crash sends two to hospital, one in critical condition

Chatham-Kent police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that sent a 64-year-old Thamesville man to a London hospital with critical injuries.

Police said their initial investigation shows that the man was driving on his property on Splinter Line just west of Thamesville shortly after 2 p.m. Monday when he lost control of the vehicle, sending it into his house and a tree before it stopped in a ditch across the road.

He was taken to a hospital in Chatham-Kent first, then airlifted to a London hospital.

Officers said a 97-year-old Thamesville man who was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the crash was also taken to the hospital, but his injuries were non-life threatening.

The damages to the home and the vehicle have been estimated at $12,000.

The traffic unit has taken over the investigation and police are asking anyone with information to contact Constable Randy Whittaker at randyw@chatham-kent.ca or 519-355-1092.
