CK had hottest October 1 in three generations

A 97-year-old heat record fell in Chatham-Kent on Tuesday.

October 1, 2019 was the hottest first day of October on record in Chatham-Kent since 1922. According to the hourly forecast on the Environment Canada web page, Chatham-Kent broke its October 1 heat record at noon and the daily high peaked at 1 p.m. The old record high was broken when the temperature hit 30.1 C at 12 p.m. and a new record high was set when the mercury peaked at 30.6 C at 1 p.m. The 2 p.m. reading then dropped to 29.6 C. The previous record was 30 C in 1922.

The Humidex readings also reached 38 C during the two record-breaking hours.

Environment Canada is forecasting more seasonal to below-average temperatures this weekend.
