The calendar may read October 1 but Southwestern Ontario will be flirting with heat records on Tuesday.
According to Environment Canada, high temperatures around 29 C with humidex readings in the high 30s are predicted for Chatham, Windsor, and London. Meteorologist Gerald Cheng added the current record highs for October 1 are 30 C in Chatham set in 1922, 30 C in Windsor in 1952, and 28.1 C in London in 2002.
"I'm not sure if people are happy about it or if people are sad about the warmth but I think most people are just having a hard time letting go of summer," said Cheng.
Cheng said the heat snuck up the U.S. midwest into Ontario while B.C. and Alberta got hammered with snow over the weekend.
"For people in southwestern Ontario, well what a treat with temperatures almost flirting with 30," he said.
Cheng said the heat and the humidity will be short-lived as normal fall temperatures return later this week.
"Things will be fall-like but right now I think that temperatures will stick around the normal for this time of year which is about 17 or 18 degrees. So, nothing too drastic like Albertans are seeing," said Cheng.
Southern Alberta got an early taste of winter this weekend when 31 centimetres of snow fell on Calgary. Many areas of Saskatchewan have also been left in a blanket of snow. Southern B.C. got its first snowfall of the year late last week.
