A man accused of attempted murder has appeared in Chatham court to set a bail hearing.
Andrew Herdman was charged with attempted murder after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle this weekend in Chatham. Chatham-Kent police said the victim was struck on Harvey Street on Saturday around 4 a.m. but the driver failed to remain at the scene. Investigators later found out that the driver and the victim know each other and police believe the hit and run was intentional.
The victim was taken to a Windsor hospital where he remains in serious but stable condition.
Herdman appeared via video on Thursday but remains behind bars pending a bail hearing. The next bail hearing is set for October 4, 2019 in courtroom 103 at 10:30 a.m. His lawyer, Sharon Murphy, said she still needs disclosure to review the facts of the case.
Chatham-Kent police are asking anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to contact Detective Constable Cole Abbott at colea@chatham-kent.ca or 519-380-6024.
