Sunday crashes keep CK police traffic unit busy

Four drivers are facing a variety of traffic-related offences in connection with a quartet of crashes in Chatham-Kent over the weekend.

Chatham-Kent police said the first collision -- a single-vehicle crash -- took place Sunday morning on Allison Line near Gore Road.

As a result of their investigation, officers believe the driver, a 32-year-old man, lost control of his truck before it went off the road and ended up in a ditch.

Police said the driver didn't have any injuries, but he didn't have a driver's license, proper license plates, or insurance, either. He was charged and later released with conditions and a future court date.

Chatham-Kent police were also called to a two-vehicle crash on Queen Street in Chatham -- this time, Sunday afternoon. Police said no one was injured there, but the damages were estimated at $7,000.

A 65-year-old Chatham man was charged with failing to stop at a red light.

A third crash took place Sunday night. Police said they were called to a single-vehicle crash on Bear Line Road between Countryview Line and St. Phillipe Line.

Officers said a 21-year-old Ruthven man allegedly lost control of his vehicle before it went off the road and hit a shed. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but there is no word on the extent of his injuries.

The damages were estimated at $23,000 and the driver was charged with careless driving.

The final of the four crashes also took place Sunday night. Officers said a 36-year-old Dresden man allegedly hit a parked vehicle on St. George Street near Main Street in Dresden.

He was charged with careless driving and the damages in that crash were estimated at $20,000.
