Domestic dispute leads to assault charge
A man is facing an assault charge after an alleged domestic disturbance.
Police said it happened Monday night at a residence in Chatham. Officers responded to a verbal argument between a couple that allegedly turned into a physical altercation.
As a result, a 55-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
Four people arrested on warrants
Police were able to cross a handful of names off their wanted list on Monday as they arrested several people who were wanted on warrants.
The first arrest was Monday morning in Sarnia involving a man who was wanted for failing to comply with his curfew. A 31-year-old man was transported back to the Chatham-Kent courthouse and taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
On Monday afternoon, police in Chatham-Kent arrested another man who was wanted for failing to comply with his release conditions. When officers arrested and searched him, they allegedly found meth in his possession. As a result, the 34-year-old was also charged with drug possession. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
Another arrest came Monday night in Chatham when a cop on general patrol initiated a traffic stop in the area of Grand Avenue and Victoria Avenue. Officers discovered that a man in the car was wanted for failing to comply with his release conditions and for obstructing police, so they arrested the 34-year-old and took him into custody pending a bail hearing.
Lastly, police nabbed another man Monday night who was also wanted for failing to comply with his curfew. A 49-year-old Tilbury man was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
Special Olympics fundraisers
Police are gearing up to host two fundraising events this week.
The first is a game of bingo on Thursday at Riverview Gaming Centre in Chatham. Proceeds from that event will benefit the Special Olympics.
On Saturday, police will be hosting the Torch Ride, a motorcycle fundraiser that also benefits Special Olympics Ontario. Registration for the Torch Ride starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday. Participants will ride along Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair and are then invited to a barbeque afterwards.
