House fire causes $50K in damage

Damage is estimated around $50,000 after an early morning fire in Chatham-Kent.

It happened around 7 a.m. Saturday at a house on Fourteenth Line, near 4 Rod Road.

Two fire units attended to the scene and arrived to the sight of smoke and flames coming out the front windows. Crews were quickly able to get the blaze under control.

According to fire officials, the home had working smoke alarms and everyone inside the house was able to exit to safety before fire fighters arrived.

The cause remains undetermined.
