SIU investigating death of 35-year-old Chatham man

Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to determine the cause of death of a 35-year-old man from Chatham.

At approximately 7 p.m. on Tuesday, emergency medical services were called to a home in the area of Victoria Avenue and Grand Avenue East to tend to a man in distress. Due to the man's behaviour, paramedics requested police be called to the scene as well, according to a statement from the provincial watchdog on Wednesday.

The man was taken to the hospital in an ambulance with police present.

Upon arrival, he stopped breathing and eventually died, the SIU said in the statement.

The investigation into the man's death is ongoing. His identity has not been released.
