Summertime cruising results in impaired driving charges

Six drivers accused of getting behind the wheel while intoxicated are now facing charges.

Officers with Lambton County OPP were out on Petrolia Line in St. Clair Township around 3 a.m. on July 21. A 30-year-old woman from Chatham was pulled over after her vehicle was spotted "driving erratically".

Officers said the driver was suspected of drinking alcohol and was taken to the Lambton OPP detachment for a breath test. She is now charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration 80 plus, as well as operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs. The 30-year-old will have to go to Sarnia for a future court date.

Drivers from nearby areas such as Middlesex and Windsor were also stopped over the weekend while travelling in Grand Bend.

Officers were called about a possible impaired driver on Main Street around 12:45 a.m. Monday morning. Police said a 30-year-old man from North Middlesex failed a roadside screening test. As a result, he has been charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.

A 19-year-old from Windsor who was also stopped by OPP has since been charged with driving while impaired.

Other drivers charged over the weekend include a 30-year-old and 35-year-old -- both from a Sarnia -- and a 51-year-old man from Enniskillen Township.
